Tutorial for Creating an ORCID Account for Authors

This section is intended for authors who do not yet have an ORCID account. Journal admins can share the following tutorial with authors so they can create an ORCID account on their own.

Step 1 Open the ORCID registration page via the following link: https://orcid.org/register.

Step 2 Fill in the registration form with the following details:

• First Name.

• Last Name.

• Email (an active email address).

• Confirm Email (re-enter the same email address).

• Password (at least 8 characters; a mix of letters and numbers is recommended).

Step 3 Set the profile Visibility option. Choosing Everyone (Public) is recommended so the ORCID profile can be displayed and verified publicly.

Step 4 Set your Notification Preferences as needed, then accept the Terms of Use and complete the reCAPTCHA verification ("I'm not a robot").

Step 5 Click the Register button to submit the registration form.

Step 6 Open the inbox of the email you registered, then click the "Verify your email address" link to activate the account.

Step 7 Once the account is verified, log in to your ORCID account. The system will display an ORCID iD in a format such as https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097, or simply 0000-0002-1825-0097.

Step 8 Complete your ORCID profile if needed, including:

• Affiliation (institution).

• Education history.

• List of publications.

• Areas of expertise.
