Similarity Check is a service provided by Crossref and powered by iThenticate (Turnitin), offering editors an easy-to-use tool for helping detect plagiarism. The service helps members prevent scholarly and professional plagiarism by providing direct feedback on how similar a manuscript is to other previously published academic and general web content.
Benefits for DOI by Pubmedia Members
As a DOI by Pubmedia sponsored member, you receive:
- Free access for your first 100 articles through Similarity Check.
- Read-only access to the full text of articles in the Similarity Check database for comparison purposes.
- Discounted checking fees.
- Unlimited user accounts per organization.
How It Works
- Turnitin indexes member content through the Content Intake System (CIS), which regularly retrieves metadata to find the full-text links members include in their metadata.
- When you apply for this service, Turnitin will verify whether it can access your existing content through the full-text URL in your Crossref metadata.
- Once verified, you gain access to the iThenticate tool, where you can submit manuscripts for comparison against a corpus of previously published academic and general web content.
- iThenticate generates a Similarity Report containing a similarity score and highlighted matching text, which editors can use to assess a manuscript's originality before publication.
Benefits of Using This Service
- Peace of mind for publishers and authors that their work is identified and protected.
- A way for editors to educate their authors and safeguard their publication's reputation.
- Clarity for readers about the originality of the work they are reading.
Important note: This service is only available to members who actively publish DOI-registered content and include full-text URLs in their metadata. To receive the 100 free articles, you must be registered as a DOI by Pubmedia sponsored member.
